TOPIC:   Spiritism & Demonic Upsurge 

TEXTS:   II Kings 17:15 - 20.
AIM: To

1. Heed the warning against the evil of Spiritism, Cultism and Idolatry;
2. Realise why some church members indulge in them, and
3. Victory without indulging in them. Show Christians can live victoriously without indulging in occult practices and idolatry

INTRODUCTION:
Spiritism and all forms of demonic practices are an abomination to God. The children of Israel indulged in them and consequently got into trouble with Him. The situation has certainly not changed today, and it is a generally held opinion that there is an upsurge of demonic practices. It is even more worrisome to hear of or see some of these practices in churches. This study exposes and addresses them.

STUDY GUIDE

1. Explain what is meant by ‘Spiritism’ and ‘demonic upsurge’.
2. a. Why must Christians shun spiritism, demonism and all the works of the Devil (Eph 5:11)? Exod. 34:12-17; II Cor. 6:14-18.

b. What do you think make some church members to patronize or indulge in them (as inEzek 8:13-16)? Deut 32:17; Prov. 29:25; Matt. 15:3; Rom. 1:21 – 23; Gal. 4:8; Col. 2:8; Heb. 2:15.
c. What should be the Christians’ attitude to them, Luke 11:21, 22; Rom. 12:9; Eph. 5:11?

1. How does God view and respond to indulgence in demonic practices by His own people? Ezek.20:30-33.
2. ‘The finished work of Christ on the cross helps God’s children to live victoriously without engaging in abominable demonic practices.’ Discuss. Eph.1:3; Phil.2:9-11; Col.2:9-15.

CONCLUSION: The heathen are open to all kinds of evil. But what is found to be strange is some ‘Christians’, or sections of the Church who indulge in acts that are clearly abominable to God. Christ is sufficient for any true child of God. The body of Christ may probably have been infiltrated by ‘outsiders’. However, at the appropriate time, God will heal His Church (Matt 13:30)!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:To mix Christ with Satan is for a person to have nothing!
