GOD AND HIS ACTS
TOPIC: God’s Nature: His Integrity
TEXT: II Cor. 1:18-20
AIMS: To
- draw attention to the nature of God as One who possesses integrity.
- show that He can be trusted.
INTRODUCTION: It is a true saying that God cannot lie (Num 23:19). His promises in the scriptures are true and can be trusted; provided they are honestly and correctly interpreted, are properly understood and faithfully applied. Though His promises may sometimes seem impractical, impossible and unbelievable; they have always proved trustworthy (Gen 18:14; II Kings 7:1, 2; Psa. 18:30).
STUDY GUIDE
- What does II Cor.1:18-20 teach about God? See also Num.23:19; Tit.1:2; Heb. 10: 23.
- From the following scriptures, identify promises made by God and explain how they were fulfilled: Gen. 17:4, 15-19(see Gen. 21:1-3); Luke.24:49 (see Acts 2:1 - 4); Luke.2:25-30; Acts 23:11 (see Phil 1:12, 13; 4:22).
- Why do some promises of God appearnot to work for us?James 4:2-5; II Pet. 3:3-9
- What should be our proper attitude to God and His promises,Hab. 2:3; Heb.11:6?
CONCLUSION: God’s promises are trustworthy, and so should never be doubted. Sometimes, however, we need patienceto wait in faith for the fulfillment of what He has promised us, because He has His own timing. We alsoneed to examine our motives when claiming any promise of God.Our motives should have no trace of selfishness, greed and worldliness.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Do not ever despair about God’s promise; for He never fails. Learn to Wait for Him! (Psa. 46:1).
MEMORY VERSE: Numbers 23:19.
